RE: Cyber Bulling Research Center CBRC
Cyber bulling, a problem that has consumed the internet and social media networks in a harsh matter. People have had their lives ruin and some have even had their lives taken because of cyber bulling. The Cyber Bulling Research Center is an organization dedicated to stopping cyber bulling for good. They not only look to help people, but to save people’s lives as well.
The CBRC is an organization that is set on giving information about cyber bullying, researching the causes of it, making known the consequences of cyber bullying, and putting an end to cyber bulling. Their founders Dr. Sameer Hinduja and Dr. Justin W. Patchin started their research in 2002 and opened their website in 2005 to inform everyone about what cyber bullying is and what can come of it. They have researched about 10,000 cases of cyber bulling and have presented to over 100,000 people, from law enforcement, school counslors, parents, and to the youth themselves. They have also published an award winning book, “Bullying Beyond the Schoolyard: Preventing and Responding to Cyberbullying,” which gives very good information of their research and findings of cyber bullying.
The CBRC website has many case stories that explain how people have been affected by cyber bullying and shows solutions for these certain situations. They offer to everyone world-wide the “Top Ten Tips to Prevent Cyber Bullying” which give excellent information to avoid being bullied or bullying someone else. These tips CBRC offers are something people don’t put into consideration, but they remind us that saving a password to a personal computer can still lead to cyber bullying. CBRC has its first tip as their most important and asks everyone to try and do this; “Research what constitutes cyber bullying, as well as how and where it is most likely to occur.” They believe that everyone must first be well informed of cyber bullying before it can be prevented. Not, only does the website have the ways to prevent bullying they also have developed their own “Top Ten Ways to Respond to Cyber Bullying.”
The lives of a victim are always affected by cyber bullying, but also are the lives of the so called “bully” affected as well. There are laws that help prevent cyber bullying and according to CBRC there are a total of 49 states in the country that have laws preventing cyber bulling. They are actually trying to receive votes to where all states are required to have laws against cyber bullying. They state in their website that in Texas all schools must have a policy against bullying and must have signs on school property stating, what makes an act, one of cyber bullying. CBRC is actively trying to help in force these laws and prevent the spread of cyber bullying.
CBRC has many goals but a couple of them stand out more than the rest. They plan to one day put cyber bullying to a rest and hope that with laws and help from many people that it will stop. They also want to expand their research and give everyone the opportunity to understand the dangers of cyber bullying. They have studied thousands of cases and many of them have led to the death of the victim, but they state that the worst part is the victim is almost always taking their own life. CBRC continues studying and researching, but they do need help to put cyber bullying to a stop.
The Cyber Bully Research Center does not have any volunteering opportunities at the moment, but both Dr. Hinduja and Dr. Patchin can be contacted at their email addresses, [email protected] and [email protected]. Their main audience and the people they try to reach out to are teens and young adults so they do have links to Facebook and Twitter and appreciate all the followers they have. They do have links to videos on Youtube and are very good about updating them as well. Everyone can help prevent cyber bullying people just have to remember watch and think about what impact a post or message can make on a person.
Sincerely,
Erick Alvarado
